Giuseppe Barillaro is Full Professor of Electronics at the University of Pisa and heads the Barillaro Research Group. His research lies at the intersection of engineering, electronics, photonics, materials science, and biomedicine, with the goal of developing next-generation technologies for precision medicine, healthcare, and environmental sustainability. His work has led to pioneering advances in biosensing, implantable and bioresorbable devices, and integrated photonic systems, supported by numerous competitive national and European research grants.

Dr. Salvo Surdo

Tenure track professor in Electronics

Salvo is an expert in micro- and nanoscale technologies, with research interests focused on biosensors, integrated photonics, and advanced diagnostic platforms.

Dr. Martina Corsi

Postdoc Researcher

Martina is a biomedical engineer with a PhD in Information Engineering. Her main research interests are in the area of implantable and sustainable biodegradable sensors based on nanostructured silica platforms within the RESORB and BRIC projects.

Dr. Elena Bellotti

Postdoc Researcher

Elena is a biomedical engineer with a PhD in Chemistry and Material Science. Her main research interests focus on hydrogel and polymer-based sensors and drug delivery devices within the RESORB and ALERT projects.

Dr. Farbod Abazar

Postdoc researcher

Farbod has a MSc in Nanotechnology and a PhD in Information Engineering. His main research interests are in the field of digital microneedles and new micro and nanotechnologies for sensing applications.

Mr. Hamza Zulfiqar

PhD student

Hamza has a MSc in Electrical Engineering. He is pursuing a PhD in the group, working on wireless biodegradable sensors for biomedical applications within the EIC pathfinder open project RESORB.

Ms. Sheza Tahir

PhD Student

Sheza has a MSc in Chemistry and joined the group as a PhD student in microneedles for transdermal sensing of Alzheimer disease biomarkers within the EIC pathfinder open project ALERT.

Ms. Ayse Ekicioglu

PhD Student

Ayse has a MSc in Materials Science and Engineering. She joined the group as a Marie-Curie doctoral candidate within the INTROS project (https://intros-project.eu), working on the development of sensors for wound healing monitoring.

Ms. Monali Perera

PhD student

Monali has an Erasmus Mundus Joint Master’s Degree in Chemical Nanoengineering. She joined the group as an early stage researcher, pursuing a PhD in implantable and biodegradable sensor for the detection of clinical/diagnostic biomarkers within the ALERT project.
